A handmade Yixing teapot in the classical Duozhi form, shaped from Jiangponi clay in a versatile 150 ml size for Gongfu tea.
Classical Form, Quiet Presence
Full-bodied, balanced and composed, the Duozhi Yixing Teapot carries the quiet confidence of a classical Zisha form.
Rather than relying on carving or elaborate decoration, its character comes from proportion: the relationship between its rounded body, lid, spout and handle.
This version is handmade from Jiangponi (降坡泥) clay and holds approximately 150 ml / 5.1 fl oz.
Compact enough for repeated Gongfu infusions.
Generous enough to share.
A traditional form made for the everyday ritual of tea.

The Duozhi Form · 掇只
Duozhi — 掇只 is a traditional name within the vocabulary of Yixing teapot forms.
Its character is immediately different from the low geometry of Shipiao or the softer, more organic curves of Xishi.
Duozhi feels composed.
The body carries visual fullness.
The upper portion builds upon that volume through the lid, while the spout and handle establish balance on either side.
There is a sense of completeness to the silhouette.
Nothing needs to be exaggerated.
The beauty lies in how the individual parts resolve into a single form.
A Study in Proportion
Classical Yixing forms often appear deceptively simple.
Remove decoration and every line becomes more important.
How full should the body be?
Where should the spout emerge?
How much visual weight should the handle carry?
How should the lid relate to the volume beneath it?
These decisions determine whether a teapot feels balanced or unresolved.
Duozhi is particularly rewarding when viewed this way.
Its character does not come from a single decorative feature.
It comes from the whole.
Jiangponi · 降坡泥
This teapot is described as being made from Jiangponi (降坡泥), a clay term within the Yixing Zisha tradition.
We retain the traditional material name rather than simplifying it to a generic description such as “brown clay.”
For Yixing pottery, the stated clay type is part of the identity of the vessel alongside its form, capacity and construction.
Here, the earthy visual character of Jiangponi complements the substantial proportions of Duozhi particularly well.
The material feels grounded.
So does the form.
150 ml: A Versatile Gongfu Size
Capacity: approximately 150 ml / 5.1 fl oz
150 ml occupies a particularly useful middle ground for Gongfu tea.
It is more generous than an exceptionally small 80–110 ml solo pot, while remaining compact enough for repeated infusions.
For One
A comfortable, generous capacity for a solo tea session.
For Two
Well suited to dividing each infusion between two smaller Gongfu cups.
For Repeated Infusions
The capacity remains restrained enough to follow a tea through multiple rounds.
For someone choosing a first Yixing teapot and uncertain about an exceptionally small vessel, 150 ml is an approachable and versatile size.
A Different Expression of Yixing
Place several classical Yixing forms beside one another and their personalities become clearer.
Xishi feels soft and rounded.
Shipiao sits low and architectural.
Qin Quan carries visual weight.
Gongdeng emphasizes symmetry.
Duozhi feels full, composed and traditional.
The function remains essentially the same.
What changes is the way the vessel occupies the hand and the tea table.
This is one of the pleasures of exploring Yixing pottery: subtle differences in proportion can create remarkably different objects.
Made for Gongfu Tea
Warm the pot.
Add the leaves.
Pour.
Decant completely.
Taste.
Then return.
A 150 ml pot allows the session to unfold gradually.
One infusion introduces the tea.
Another opens it.
Later rounds reveal different aromas, textures and levels of sweetness.
The vessel becomes part of that repetition.
Eventually, you stop looking at the pot.
You simply reach for it.
Art of Quiet Living.

Living With Yixing Clay
Before first use, rinse the teapot carefully with clean water.
After each tea session, remove the leaves and rinse the interior.
Allow the teapot to dry thoroughly with the lid removed before storing.
Avoid strongly scented detergents unless specifically recommended by the maker.
Protect the teapot from impacts and sudden temperature changes.
A Note on Handmade Character
This piece is described as handmade, rather than specifically fully handmade.
We recommend examining photographs of the actual teapot closely, particularly the:
Body · Lid · Spout · Handle · Base · Clay Surface
For a classical form with relatively little decoration, these details tell a more meaningful story than exaggerated craftsmanship claims.
Designed to Be Gifted
A Yixing teapot makes a particularly thoughtful gift because its meaning develops through use.
The recipient does not simply display it.
Tea is brewed.
The pot is handled.
Favourite leaves are discovered.
Quiet routines form around it.
At 150 ml, this Duozhi is also approachable enough for someone beginning to explore Gongfu tea while remaining distinctly within the world of traditional Yixing pottery.
Curator's Note
Duozhi has a satisfying sense of completeness.
It does not have the dramatic low profile of Shipiao or the immediately recognizable softness of Xishi.
Instead, the appeal comes from the way the entire pot holds together.
At 150 ml, this version also occupies one of our preferred middle-ground capacities: intimate enough for Gongfu tea, but flexible enough to share.
