A hand-blown glass Gongdao Bei with a low, flowing silhouette, created for the quiet rhythm of Gongfu tea.
Tea, Made Visible
There is something particularly beautiful about tea when nothing stands between the eye and the infusion.
The Bianzhou Glass Fairness Pitcher is hand-blown from transparent glass, allowing the colour and clarity of the tea to remain completely visible as it moves from teapot to cup.
Its distinctive Bianzhou (扁舟) form gives the vessel a low, flowing silhouette, while the compact 150 ml / 5.1 fl oz capacity makes it a natural companion to smaller Yixing teapots and Gaiwan used for Gongfu tea.
Simple enough to disappear into the ritual.
Beautiful enough to notice when it does.

Why This Piece
A fairness pitcher performs a simple but important task.
Tea does not leave a teapot or Gaiwan at exactly the same strength from beginning to end. Decanting the entire infusion into a separate vessel allows the tea to mix before it is divided among the cups.
That is where the Chinese name Gongdao Bei — 公道杯, often translated as Fairness Pitcher, comes from.
Every cup receives the same infusion.
With Bianzhou, that practical step also becomes visual.
The transparent glass reveals the tea completely—the amber of aged Pu'er, the pale gold of white tea, the warm orange of a roasted oolong.
The pitcher adds almost nothing to the view.
Only the tea remains.
The Bianzhou Form
Bianzhou — 扁舟 evokes the image of a small, low boat.
The name suits the vessel.
Rather than rising vertically like a conventional pitcher, its character comes from a more flowing silhouette and the relationship between its body, opening and pouring line.
In transparent glass, that form becomes even lighter.
Edges catch the light.
Tea introduces colour.
The vessel itself seems to recede.
It is a particularly quiet expression of a Gongfu tea essential.
Hand-Blown Glass
Each Bianzhou pitcher is described as being hand-blown, giving the vessel a character distinct from completely standardized industrial glassware.
The appeal of hand-blown glass lies partly in this relationship between control and variation.
The overall form is deliberate, but subtle differences may naturally occur between individual pieces.
Look closely at the profile.
The curvature.
The rim.
The transition from one surface to another.
These small details are part of how the object was formed.
150 ml: Made for Gongfu Tea
Capacity: approximately 150 ml / 5.1 fl oz
This compact capacity pairs naturally with smaller Gongfu brewing vessels.
For example, it can complement many of the 100–150 ml Yixing teapots commonly chosen for intimate tea sessions.
After each infusion, decant the tea completely into the fairness pitcher.
The liquor combines.
The brewing vessel is emptied.
Then pour from the pitcher into one or several smaller cups.
A simple extra step creates a more consistent cup—and a more measured rhythm at the tea table.
Watch the Tea Change
Transparent glass gives you something opaque ceramics cannot:
the ability to watch every infusion.
The first pour may be pale.
The second deepens.
The third changes again.
With some teas, the difference is subtle.
With others, dramatic.
Placed beside an unglazed Yixing teapot, the contrast becomes particularly beautiful.
Earth and transparency.
Clay and glass.
One vessel hides the tea while it brews.
The other reveals it completely once the infusion is finished.
Between Pot and Cup
The fairness pitcher occupies a small but meaningful place in Gongfu tea.
Teapot or Gaiwan → Fairness Pitcher → Cup
The tea leaves remain behind.
The complete infusion enters the pitcher.
Then the tea is divided.
This prevents the first cup from receiving a noticeably lighter portion while the final cup receives tea that has continued extracting inside the brewing vessel.
The result is exactly what the Chinese name suggests:
a fairer pour.
Made for Quiet Tea
Pour from the teapot.
Watch the infusion gather in glass.
Notice its colour before tasting it.
Then divide it between the cups.
A fairness pitcher adds only a few seconds to the process.
Yet those seconds create another small moment in which to observe the tea.
Perhaps that is why such a simple vessel feels so natural within Gongfu tea.
Nothing rushed.
Nothing unnecessary.
Art of Quiet Living.

A Note on Handmade Glass
As a hand-blown glass object, subtle differences between individual pieces may occur.
Minor variations in form, dimensions or small characteristics associated with the glass-forming process can be part of the handmade nature of the piece.
These should be distinguished from damage such as cracks or chips.
Care
Handle the glass carefully and avoid impacts against hard surfaces.
Rinse after tea use and clean gently with non-abrasive materials.
Avoid sudden extreme temperature changes unless the maker's specific heat-resistance guidance confirms the appropriate temperature range.
Allow the pitcher to dry thoroughly before storing.
Curator's Note
We particularly like this pitcher beside an unglazed Yixing teapot.
The contrast is almost elemental.
The Yixing clay is opaque, tactile and earthy.
Bianzhou is transparent and visually weightless.
The tea moves from one into the other, and suddenly everything hidden inside the pot becomes visible.
For a small Gongfu setup, 150 ml is also a beautifully restrained size.
